From one of the most power-efficient brands in air purifiers, the Blueair Blue Pure 311 Auto is a stylish air purifier with a brand-new design architecture that is lightweight and smooth in airflow. The Blue Pure 311 Auto however has its downsides when compared to some of the competitive air purifiers. This does not limit the performance of the air purifier as the Blue Pure 311 Auto has a good purification process and does not contain the optional ionizer feature allowing it to be one of the safest air purifiers.
The design of the Blueair Blue Pure 311 Auto air purifier comes with a default Arctic Trail version and there are a few options with the same ambiance and outlook. The Blueair Blue Pure 311 Auto has a 20.5 inches height with a total diameter of 10.02 and weighs around 6.5 pounds. This is one of the lightest and easy to handle air purifiers that we noted in terms of portability and convenience.
The design of the air purifier has only allowed a three-stage filtration system which has the first filter on the external body of the air purifier as a fabric cover paving the way for a stylish outlook while having a notable downside in terms of purification and general handling.
The Blueair Blue Pure 311 Auto is designed mainly for 250-350 ft.² dimensions with a bottom-to-top airflow that helps the air purifier to remain convenient in any space at any given location. The design of the air purifier is cylindrical with 360 inlet, which is a creative way, yet a bit irritating when it comes to changing filters.
The control panel of the Blueair Blue Pure 311 Auto has a different design and to put it in a more suitable way it is rather a troubling convenience. At the top of the air purifier in the middle, the touch button is available, which is the main on-off switch and contains a combination of operations such as the fan, speed, and mode selection.
Half the operation of the air purifier is done through this single button, which we found very convenient compared to traditional models which have separate controls. This mode of operation was easily accessible and yet we found in some instances, a bit frustrating when missing our presses in the selection of each mode.
The air quality indicator is on the side of the top half of the cylinder. The air quality sensor is just about a few centimeters to the side from the quality indicator, which was rather easily visible, even from a distance. The control panel is very limited in the air purifier. However, it is designed in a way that provides ease of accessibility while in some situations, it might also be a small frustrating factor.
The absence of the timer is a huge downfall from our perspective, as we often find the timer very useful in our testing and regular usage of the appliance, where constant involvement with the air purifier is not needed. In the absence of this, the air purifier needs manual involvement in stopping when not needed. Unavailability of features such as a remote compared to the Winix 5500–2 which might have been a slight nod of approval for the absence of a timer.
From complex stages of purification, there are three stages in terms of air purification in the Blueair Blue Pure 311 Auto. The first stage of air purification is the pre-filter.
The pre-filter is one of the main features of the Blueair Blue Pure 311 Auto, as this is literally visible as a fabric that also adds to the style of the air purifier. The downside of the fabric pre-filter is its visibility. Dirt can be seen in the external fabric as it functions as the first layer of protection against pollutants.
The next stage of the filtration process is the Proprietary Particle Filter, which comes in place for a typical HEPA filter, which is not ideally efficient as the HEPA filter but provides filtration for smaller pollutants that squeeze in through the fabric and catching some of the finer pollutants as well.
The next filtration stage is the attached carbon filter to the Proprietary Particle filter. At first, as an attached carbon filter, we did not think it would do a good job of purifying bad odors in a room.
However, we were proved wrong as the air purifier did a perfect job of hiding cooking odors in the room where it is operated. The carbon filter will also provide protection against some viruses and harmful VOCs long-term.
When testing Blueair Blue Pure 311 Auto in the dedicated room, the air purifier surprised us with a good performance and matched some of the top models such as Coway Airmega 200M. In our test, the air purifier was able to clean some of the intended odors and pollutants to around 91% within 45 to 50 minutes. As the room’s dimension was 250 ft.² we were impressed with the air purifier and the rate of purification along with the silent operation.
Pollutant | Rating |
---|---|
Smoke | 245 |
Dust | 232 |
Pollen | 242 |
The noise levels of the Blueair Blue Pure 311 Auto are outstanding. This lightweight air purifier is able to manage the noise levels of all three fan speeds to a decent level, which does not irritate or bother your work or sleep. This is one of the top air purifiers that do the job and manage to keep it silent all day.
The main aspect is the filter replacement of the air purifier and the regular cleaning of the pre-filter fabric as it gets dirty in a small period of time. Therefore, it requires constant cleaning, and when removing filters we found it rather time-consuming. With the plastic frame build, the removal of the filter should be done cautiously, as a slight misalignment, might damage the structure of the cylindrical air purifier.
The energy efficiency and the power output of the air purifier are very likable in terms of consumption and power saving. This efficiency comes with all three fan speeds, whereas some competitors might have higher energy-consuming features when switching to higher fan speeds.
As with all air purifiers, cleaning all the filters is necessary periodically and the carbon filter is recommended to be replaced every six months and the PPC filter once a year. However, vacuuming the pre-filter fabric and the inside of the air purifier is most definitely a requirement when using the appliance for a long time.
There are three main positives in the Blueair Blue Pure 311 Auto which are the effective energy consumption, being a lightweight appliance, and the smooth airflow that is provided with the purification process. Additionally, the unavailability of harmful features such as an ionizer is a huge win in terms of modern air purifiers, therefore Blueair Blue Pure 311 Auto is able to provide great purification without such harmful features.
However, when recommending an air purifier, we would easily suggest Winix and Coway compared to Blueair Blue Pure 311 Auto as the features such as the absence of a HEPA filter and a timer.
